What's Going On? September 6th through September 9th
Thought for the Week
Unit 1: Elementary Algebra
During the first part of our first class period this week, we will spend some time evaluating the results of our first EMPT (Early Mathematics Placement Test). Students will see a baseline result for their beginning knowledge and set goals for achievement for the rest of the year. After that, we will dive in our first unit of the year on "Elementary Algebra". For this week, we have three lessons scheduled. For each lesson, students must complete the pre-test. Students who score a "B" or higher on the pre-test are exempt from participating in the lesson and may move onto the next lesson. Students who do not meet this criteria will be led through our class notes, will complete a homework assignment, and complete a formative assessment for the lesson. Students must pass the formative assessment with a "B/C" or higher before they can complete the summative assessment for the unit. Students may attempt this formative assessment as many times as is necessary but will need additional conferencing and help after the third attempt. Our lessons for this week include:
- Operations with Real Numbers
- Properties of Real Numbers
- Algebraic Expressions
