Unit 9: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

This week, students will dive into our ninth unit of the year.  We will have three topics to focus on for the week:

  • Graphing exponential and logarithmic functions
  • Evaluating logarithms and exponential functions
  • Properties of logs
Throughout the week, we will focus on the fact that logarithms represent a different way to express exponents.  Students will practice translating between the two forms and learn how to expand and simplify logarithmic expressions.  Students are considered "on pace" for the class if they have successfully completed all formative work through section 9.3.

Thought for the Week Unit 6: Quadratic Functions This week, our primary focus will be on graphing quadratic functions.  We will spend the first two days of the week graphing quadratic equations.  Since quadratics will produce a "U"-shape parabola, we can use the idea of symmetry to help speed along our graphing progress.  We will also take a look at graphing quadratic inequalities.  Students who have successfully completed the formative work for 6.5 and 6.7 will be able to earn a "Flex Day" for Friday's class.

What's Going On? May 1st through May 5th

Thought for the Week Countdown to Summer! The countdown to summer officially begins on Monday! Here are the dress-up days for May 1- 5. Unit 9: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions This week, we will continue with our study of logarithms.  We will spend Monday's class talking about how to solve equations with logs.  During class on Tuesday, we will talk about how logs can be used to talk about exponential growth and decay.  We will spend the last class period of the week reviewing for our summative assessments.  Students will have the opportunity to earn a "flex day" on Friday if all formative work through the end of unit 9 has been completed.

What's Going On? March 20th through March 24th

Thought for the Week Unit 8: Functions and Relations This week, we will take on sections 8.2, 8.3, and 8.4.  In these three sections, we will review how to find the inverse of a function (swap the x and the y), how to graph polynomials, and how to graph and write equations for circles.  Students will earn the ability to flex out of our final class before spring break by successfully completing all formative and summative work through section 8.4
