Thought for the Week Unit 4: Systems of Equations and Inequalities This week, we will continue with our study of systems of equations.  We will spend this week investigating Matrices.   Students will learn how to express a system of equations in a Matrix.  We will also learn how to perform mathematical operations, such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication with a matrix.  We will also investigate how to find the determinant of a matrix.  Additionally, we will spend some time working with a graphing calculator to learn how technology can help aid us with this process.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving Break!  Take some time to relax and rejuvenate over your 5-day weekend! EMPT - Early Math Placement Test Work This week, we will put a pause on our work with lesson 4.  While we are on pause, we will spend Monday's class reviewing some of the questions we might expect to see on our Early Math Placement Test (EMPT).  As we have been talking about more heavily lately, the goal of this class goes beyond our work and course grade at North.  The goal of this class is to make sure that students are ready for their college-level math placement tests.

Thought for the Week Checking In with the EMPT and Starting Unit 4: Systems of Equations and Inequalities We will start off this week by checking in on our progress on the EMPT.  We will complete a practice EMPT assignment that contains 12 questions that we might see on the Early Math Placement Test that we should have mastered so far based on our learning from Quarter 1.  This assignment is meant to provide students with valuable feedback on what concepts they have mastered and what concepts still need some attention prior to taking our math placement test for college. After this is complete, we will move on to our fourth unit of the year.  For the first part of the unit, we will focus on solving systems of equations and inequalities.  In the past, students have learned how to solve a system by graphing, using substitution, and linear combination / elimination.  We will spend some time reviewing each of these methods and helping to determine when we shou...

Thought for the Week Wrapping Up Unit 3: Linear Functions, Equations, and Inequalities This week, we will wrap up our study of unit 3.  Monday's class will focus on solving absolute value equations and inequalities.  Tuesday's class will be devoted to a review, including creating a one-page reference sheet of important concepts and terms that we will be covering in our summative.  We will then complete the summative during our third class of the week.  Friday's class will be devoted to "catch up" and getting some additional support.
